Learn More About Pack 52

Pack 52 is a Cub Scout Pack in Cheat Lake, WV (part of Morgantown, WV) and we are a member of the Boy Scouts of America. We are a very family oriented pack, and invite girls and boys (from kindergarten to 5th grade) from local elementary schools to join our pack. We hold our meetings at Cheat Lake Elementary School in the evening. All meetings are held during the school year, and when school is out for summer, we begin our Summertime Activities which are held in June, July and August.

As a member of the pack, scouts will participate in den meetings (which is with kids in their grade), about 1-2 times a month. In addition, scouts will participate in a monthly pack meeting (which all dens attend). Den meetings are usually held on either Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays depending on the individual dens. Pack meetings are usually held on Tuesdays.

Den Levels:

Lion: The Lion program is for kids in kindergarten

Tiger: The Tiger program is for kids in 1st grade.

Wolf: The Wolf program is for kids in 2nd grade.

Bear: The Bear program is for kids in 3rd grade.

Webelos I: The Webelos I program is for kids in 4th grade.

Arrow of Light: The Arrow of Light program is for kids in 5th grade. (These kids graduate and move on to Boy Scouts each February.)

Cub Scouts is a terrific program that helps the boys and girls build character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, learn and explore a wide variety of interests and develop talents in academics and sports. Cub Scouts take part in exciting activities that are fun and meaningful. Cub Scouting is Fun...with a purpose!

The ten purposes of Cub Scouting are:

Organization

A Den is a group of 6-8 Cub Scouts who are all in the same school grade level. Each Den has at least 1 adult leader, a Den Leader, who supervises and plans Den activities. Dens meet once-twice per month with sometimes an outing per month. Outings are based on Achievement requirements found in the Scout Handbook. Sample outings might include hikes, fire station tour, television station tour, baking cookies at a den member's house, or visiting the library. The schedule and location of meetings is determined by the den members. Dens are organized according to grade level:

Lions: Kindergarten
Tigers: First Grade
Wolves: Second Grade
Bears: Third Grade
Webelos: Fourth Grade
Arrow of Light: Fifth Grade

Taken all together, these Dens form a Pack. The Pack meets once per month and is a great time for scouts of all ages to interact with each other, play games, and do crafts. The Pack is lead by the Cubmaster. Several times a year the Pack participates in outings including campouts, service projects, parades, etc.

The monthly Pack Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday in the cafeteria at Cheat Lake Elementary School.

Uniform

Class A

The "Class A" uniform is an important part of the Scouting program. It identifies the scouts with their rank and gives them a sense of belonging to a den, the pack, and Boy Scouts of America. Scouts enjoy wearing their uniform. They should wear it to all den meetings, pack meetings, and special pack activities. Shirts should be tucked in to follow - A Scout is Clean.

Official Cub Scout uniforms can be purchased at the local Scout Shop or the Pack has hand-me-down uniforms.

Class B (optional)

The "Class B" uniform is a Pack or Den specific T-shirt. The Pack T-shirt is given primarily at the beginning of the school year to a registered scout. These T-shirts are worn on den outings, pack outings or summertime pack activities. They help identify the girls and boys as being a part of a larger organization. There are Class B uniforms available in adult sizes as well for purchase!

Advancement

Ranks

All Cub Scouts start off with the Bobcat Award. This can be done in a couple of days at home with an adult/parent or with the Den Leader. To earn this rank your Scout must fulfill 8 requirements, which mainly consist of learning and memorizing the Cub Scout motto, Scout law, Scout Oath, handshake, salute, and sign. In addition, parents are to review with their child the How to Protect

Regardless of what grade (except Lion) a Scout joins the program they will always start with the Bobcat rank and grow from there.

Youth Protection Guidelines

Pack 52 adheres strictly to the Two Deep Leadership code. At no time is there to be fewer than two adults alone with a scout. All of our leaders have been trained in youth protection guidelines. For the safety of your child, Cub Scouting rules require that you stay at all den and pack gatherings at the Lion and Tiger Cub Level! Some Den Leaders ask that you stay at Wolf, Bear, Webelos or Arrow of Light. We are all volunteers and cub scouting is a family involvement that we are all working together to help our children.
